Email Response

A reader recently emailed Dragonfly and inquired about Blitz 2, this is their response:

Dear Kevin

First of all, thank you for your interest in our game and let me answer your questions.

Blitz1941 that was serviced in Haname is closed since last 20 December 2007 so that unfortunately you can’t play anymore.

At the present, we are developing the Blitz 2 that takes over Blitz1941’s good point and makes up for its weak points. Please wait a moment at great inconvenience.

For reference, even if you join the Korean Blitz2 homepage (http://www.blitz2.co.kr/), you can’t play the game at the present.

In addition, it isn’t decided yet whether we service in only Korea or worldwide.

We’ll do our best to service the game with good quality as much as many players in domestic and worldwide wait as soon as possible.

Thank you.

Hat tip to Kevin for the email.

News? Nope.

It's been a while, but nothing new to post. I'm thinking about starting a Blitz 2 wiki article since some asshat set the Blitz 1941 one for deletion. News on the game will probably be pretty slow until December, I think we can expect some announcements then.

Gameplay Video Musings

Very light on news as none has been released recently but I guess it's the nature of this kind of game.
Some observations and thoughts about the gameplay video. I'm mixed on blitz 2 not continuing the WW2 theme, it added a little historical angle which I enjoyed but I'm sure this modern take expands the possibilities of what can be in the game. As long as they keep the core gameplay, which it seems they have, then I can't really complain. The tank configuration seen early in the video seems to suggest that socketed items have been removed in favor of simple options for changing the body, hatch(+minigun?) and main turret. The world map is seen in the video and the flags of the two factions but little is known about them. The aiming reticle has changed, it's now smaller and the mechanism seems to have changed, we don't know if timing is still involved for a critical hit. Hit, strike, critical and kill are now seen above an enemy instead of numerical damage. When you're hit with a critical, the screen flashes red, who remembers that annoying warning voice in 1941?. Not much is known about skills right now. That's it for now, I'll post news when I get some.

Blitz 2 Gameplay Video

Is this the only gameplay video of Blitz 2 on the net so far? The most obvious change is its use of full 3D and generally more effects. I might post a detailed little examination of all the little things in this video sometime in the future.

Update: Uploaded video to youtube

Blitz 2 facts

Some interesting information from two articles, a Chinese and Japanese one reveal some interesting facts about Blitz 2. The most important being that the total numbers of players playing simultaneously on a battlefield has been raised from 32(16vs16) to 200(100vs100). Another one is the increase in the types of tanks from 4 to 9. There also seems to be a new story line which is compared to the cold war, but from the shoddy translation, I can't seem to tell.

Blitz 2 Models

The translation of this Japanese article also reveals interesting differences between the two versions which I'll post later.

Creation of this Blog

I've created this blog to reminisce on Blitz 1941, the WW2 tank MMO created by Mowelsoft which left us international players out in the cold after the international version unexpectedly shut down a few years back but mainly to post any news I can find about the sequel, Blitz 2. Resorting to googling Blitz 1941 every little while and looking up youtube videos to see recent comments from ex-players isn't ideal. Hopefully one day a Blitz 2 international version is released and we can get back to where we left off.
